FISHING KNOTS

IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT

IMPROVED CLINCH KNOT

Probably the most often used knot in fishing. It is a strong and an easy knot to tie and it is ideal for attaching a fly to the tippet or lines and leaders to swivels and hooks.

Thread about 100mm of the end of the line through the eye of the hook. Hold the hook and the line with the thumb and finger of one hand. Using your other hand make five turns of the tag end around the hook; keep the hook under tension while doing this.

Thread the end through the loop next to the eye of the hook and then back through the (larger) loop that you have just formed.

Moisten the knot and then tighten it by taking up the slack by pulling the tag end and finally tighten it home by pull on the standing part of the hook. On heavier lines, you will need to slide the knot down using your fingers.

The knot should slide tight over the hook's eye and should not be wrapped over the top of itself.

Trim the tag end to finish the knot.
