Guru

Buffelspoort dam has one of the largest common carp concentrations in south africa. It is home to a couple of 50 pound fish.

Cant believe you have never heard of it.It is one of the most targeted dams by specimen anglers due to its large fish population.

Guru, this dam holds huge carp! But there's a catch (excuse the pun). It's very snaggy! It's easy to lose a fish, esp. if you dont have a boat to go and get it.

Buffelspoort dam is about 30-40km west of Harties.

Guru

That is why the guys are here on the forum. They are here to help and to assist with all your questions.

If you have any other questions mail me:Idoliser@highveldmail.co.za

I will allways try to help newcomers to the sport.I believe rather help the guys the right way then leave them to battle the wrong way and get fedup.

Like backlead is saying Guru, its basically just snags.
There are alot of places for you to place youre hookbaits, but the carp there are conditioned to know where every one of those trees are.

And there arent many people on earth that can stop a 50 from plummeting towards trees at full speed.
Its more like tree stumps...EVERYWHERE!
But the lake has the biggest fish in the country in my opinion. 50's and dare I say world record is in there.

BD & Guru

Buffelspoort actually comprises of a very rocky bottom in most places with huge tree stumps under water. Also there are huge dropp-offs with plateaus, gravel bars all over and also river beds.

The right way to fish this dam at the moment will be with a boat. You hook into a fish you fetch it with the boat as all the snags are currently submerged as the dam is 100% full.

Guru

I wish I had been fishing.Just working and thats it.

Buffelspoort has no facilities its very wild out there still.Unless you fish the swims on entering the gates they have a ablusion block and also nice braais at the waters edge.

I would not even attempt fishing this venue without a boat at the moment seeing that the water level has rising to 100%.There is still a lot of weed far out into the lake so a boat is a must.
